Mocht de opening niet lukken dan is de kaart ook geldig op de andere dagen. Janknegt Gallery zal werk presenteren van Bas Lobik, Claire Harvey en Lon Godin. In deze nieuwsbrief daar meer over.

NIEUWE KUNSTENAAR: CLAIRE HARVEY

Claire Harvey presents on Art on Paper a black-and-white installation, consisting of her most recent drawings on transparent foil, tape and on Post It's. Harvey’s sharp powers of observation originate from the time she was an art student in London, and sketched the people she saw on the public transport system on little glass slides. On her long daily commutes she saw her tiny drawings as a playful way of channeling her curiosity about people in their surroundings. So Harvey sees limitations as providing a context in which her thoughts and creative powers can grow, and she sees doubt and confusion as providing potential and frequently rewarding sources of inspiration. Her desire for ambitious formal solutions, combined with her subtle sense of space, produce a brilliant and surprising result.
Claire Harvey studied at Reading University, Chelsea College of Art in London, and completed a residency at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. Recent exhibitions include ‘Walk on’ in Museo de Bellas Artes de Santander, Santander, Spain; ‘Next to Nothing’, Lombard Freid, New York, US; ‘Easily Removable’, Member’s room, Tate Modern, London; Biennial of Contemporary Art, Le Havre, France; ‘Unisono 18′: Claire Harvey, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Netherlands; Prix de Rome, Witte de With, Rotterdam, The Netherlands; ‘And it looked like this’, Galerie Fons Welters, Amsterdam.

NIEUWE KUNSTENAAR: LON GODIN

Lon Godin constructs a world which is not fixed, a world in the making. Painting itself is her topic. She makes paintings, works on paper, but also films, photography and digital prints. Her paintings are made with freehand but precise brushstrokes. A series of predetermined actions creates a motive, and so the image.  ‘Painting is the action of becoming’, an action in imaginary space and time. The painting is a reality arising from processes. It is a momentary halt in an infinate flow.  All her work is related to the phenomenon ‘time’ in their own way. Her work formulates questions about our existence in a visual way, questions about the physical and the temporary. The work provides no answers, but it unveils the unrest of not knowing and not being in control.

Finished in 1986 Willem de Kooning academie in Rotterdam.
selected exhibitions: Reuten Galerie Amsterdam, Paris Concret Parijs Construction en cours duo exhibition with Marie Thurman, Malplaquet Berlijn, ART Amsterdam.
