Born in The Netherlands and based in Ireland, Anita Groener is an established artist who makes paintings, drawings, film and animation that she exhibits internationally. Her work is routed through a transcultural perspective and grounded in drawing where she weaves together a continuum of thinking, developing and making, asking what it is to be human within current geopolitical realities, while focusing on specific events, their archetypal and psychological resonances.

In 2005 she was elected a member of Aosdána, the cultural body which recognises major, sustained contribution to the arts in Ireland. She taught until 2014 at the Dublin Institute of Technology where she also served as the Head of Fine Art from 2004-2006. In 2014 the artist was selected by Facebook San Francisco to participate in their Facebook AIR (Artist In Residence) Programme undertaking and completing a commission within the company’s EMEA Headquarters in Dublin.
